The philosophy of the Arabic Calligraphy and Decoration Department is based on achieving communication between originality and modernity, communication with the living heritage of Islamic art that has not exhausted its aesthetic and applied dimensions, and communication with civilizational developments that would solidify the creative thought of Arabic calligraphy arts and decoration, in addition to developing scientific capabilities by developing skills Students in this rich field, through the breadth of the educational and aesthetic experience and its openness to its counterparts in other universities of the world.
The department focuses in its curricula on the areas of Arabic calligraphy arts, decoration, types and aesthetics. The curriculum has an applied nature that takes place in practical classrooms, and a theoretical aspect represented in theoretical lectures that have practical applications, which emphasize the formation of technical skills to achieve artistic productions of a high technical level under the supervision of the department’s teachers. Students in the fourth year are assigned graduation projects that are an application. Practical to implement what was studied in the theoretical, practical and applied lectures during the years of study in the department through the implementation of a practical art project in the form of a calligraphy painting with scientific research. The department is keen that the vocabulary that students study during their preparation period in the four years be sequential, interrelated and integrated, taking into account the preparation of the (artist) on the basis of the principle of integrating learning and teaching.

Preparing specialized researchers and artists with a high level of competence in the arts of Arabic calligraphy, decoration and its aesthetics, to contribute to the advancement of the artistic movement in Iraq and the Arab world, on objective bases that depend on scientific research, experimentation and committed art by postgraduate students, and to create an appropriate university-academic environment and climate for students to absorb aspects Cognitive, skillful and sentimental in the arts of Arabic calligraphy and decoration.
