Art education department
History of the establishment:
In 1973 a specialization had been created for preparing teachers within the Department of Dramatic Arts, and the same in the Department of Fine Arts. The two specializations affiliated with these departments continued until 1983-1984, when it became an independent department under the name of the Department of Art Education. The graduate is awarded a bachelor’s degree in Art Education, and a master’s degree in Art Education
In the year 1993-1994, new curricula were applied on the basis of creating a specialty (theatrical education) and (formal education) within the department, which is the only course that graduated in 1997-1998.Then the specializations were canceled later in the academic year 1998-1999 to become one specialty. Art Education department is one of the leading scientific, technical and educational institutions. It works to combine the scientific with the technical and the educator.
The department prepares young educational cadres, which led to the creation of interactions and cooperation between it and the various institutions of the Ministry of Education, which prompted the establishment of the department
The aims
The most important aims of the department are:
- Preparing the teacher of art education in the stages of pre-university education of all kinds and levels.
- Preparing specialists in the implementation and presentation of social development programs, youth care and special groups.
- Preparing specialists in implementing and presenting aesthetic education programs.
- Conducting scientific and field research in arts and education fields.
- Preparing training programs for workers in the fields of art education at all levels
- Providing technical advice to various institutions in the fields of art and artistic culture.
The vision
The Department of Art Education at the College of Fine Arts – University of Baghdad is one of the unique and distinguished educational departments in graduating male and female teachers of art education, not only in Iraq, but at the level of the entire Arab world.
Over the course of more than 37 years of its educational, scientific and artistic career, the department has gone through various developments, and the department has had a pioneering impact in local conferences and seminars that aim to address the problems of teacher preparation in secondary schools, and how to come up with curricula that designed to train and prepare art teachers.
The goal of art education that we seek in schools is to educate the individual so that he can live an elegant and aesthetic life in the midst of the developed social framework to which he belongs. The subject of art, like other subjects, is only a means to reach the general and comprehensive formation of students, and its goal is not to build manual skill only, but to create a kind of complete experience in the different stages of education.
